Tips for building a swimming pool

No matter which type of swimming pool you choose, your supplier in the South of France frequently forgets two things that are of vital importance for you, being the owner of a holiday home:

1. In the summertime 5 - 10 centimetres of water evaporates each week. Before you know it, the skimmers of your swimming pool are empty. For this reason always ask your supplier to assemble a ‘niveau régulateur'. This little sensor in your skimmer is linked to an electronic switchboard in your ‘local technique’ by means of a thin hose. The switchboard controls the electric tab of your water supply. Several times a day the water level of your pool is checked automatically and filled up if necessary.

Cost: approximately € 250 (+ assembling).

2. The best way to protect your swimming pool during the winter is to cover the pool with a 'bache' and to continue running the pump of your installation for approximately two hours per day. To prevent the pool water for freezing over, ask your supplier to install a 'hors gel'. This thermostat is placed in the open air and is linked to the switch of your pump. As soon as the open air reaches a critical temperature (0.5 °C), the pump starts up automatically.

Cost: approximately € 100 (+ installing).
